About Dungeness Crab
The Dungeness Crab gets its common name from the town of Dungeness, Washington which is located on the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The West Coast’s first commercial fishery, mainly producing Dungeness crabs, was built in 1848 in Dungeness. The Dungeness Crab is the only commercially important crab in the state of Washington’s territorial waters and was the first shellfish harvested commercially on the North Pacific Coast.

Dungeness Wildlife Refuge & Dungeness Spit
Recreational areas near Dungeness include the Dungeness Recreation Area and Wildlife Refuge, containing many excellent trails. It also contains the Dungeness Spit, the longest sand jetty in the US, dozens of species of birds, and a hiking trail to the lighthouse. Crab flourish in Dungeness Bay, and crabbing is a popular local pastime.

Dungeness Light House
The Dungeness Spit is also home to the Dungeness Light House. Completed in 1857, the light house was the first along the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The adjoining house was constructed in 1895. The light house tower was originally 100 feet (30m) tall, but this was reduced to 63 feet (19m) in 1927 due to the deteriorating upper structure. The light house was manned by the Coast Guard until 1994, when the site was leased to the New Dungeness Chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society.

Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival and Tour of Wineries – October
The Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival is the annual celebration of the region’s diverse bounty – the seafood, the maritime and cultural traditions and the breathtaking coastal environment. The festival’s featured crustacean, the Dungeness Crab, was named after the village of Dungeness. The Crab and Seafood Festival occurs the second full weekend in October.

Graham Kerr, also known as The Galloping Gourmet, was the Master of Ceremonies at the 10th Annual Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival.

Colette’s Bed & Breakfast was honored to host and have Graham Kerr as our very special guest during this unique event. Graham Kerr is an internationally known culinary and television personality, award-winning author, and master of metaphorical speaking. His focus is on serving people who want to make healthy, creative, lifestyle changes and to increase their consumption of fresh, local edible plants and seafood.

About Graham Kerr – The Galloping Gourmet
Graham Kerr, The Galloping Gourmet, brought the art of creative cooking alive for television audiences around the world. Graham pioneered television cooking and introduced an entire generation to fine food and an industry that has blossomed into multiple cooking channels.

Kerr is not only a celebrated chef, but an accomplished author of more than 25 books with 14 million copies sold. His most recent book Growing at the Speed of Life was released in 2011.

Kerr has received many awards including a Julia Child Cookbook Award and a James Beard Award, as well as two Emmy nominations for outstanding daytime programming. He was inducted into the American Culinary Hall of Fame.
