Fragrant fields of Lavender have become a signature of the North Olympic Peninsula. Visit the Sequim and Port Angeles area, where in the gorgeous sprawl of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley, scenic beauty, culinary innovation and agricultural sustainability converge in beautiful fields of lavender.
This unique area is known as the Lavender Capital of North America, with more than 30 farms growing this amazingly diverse herb. Soaps, lotions, seasonings, essential oils, teas, scone mixes, books, plants, lemonade, honey, eye masks, and other items totaling more than 90 products, all containing the amazingly diverse herb lavender, are among the pleasures of this fragrant destination. But the real attraction is the setting, where fields of lavender velvet are nestled between the majestic Olympic Range and the picturesque Strait of Juan de Fuca, and there is beauty and serenity everywhere you turn.
The Sequim Dungeness Valley is located in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains and creates an ideal microclimate for growing lavender. This means that we receive much less rain than our other Washington neighbors. In fact, we average over 290 days of sunshine every year and only 15- 17 of rain per year! The mild climate has made the area a very pleasant tourist destination, as well as a popular retirement and recreation area.
